The Little Black Dress
No woman's wardrobe would be complete without a little black dress. Women today take the clothing item so much for granted as the life saver that it is, that we kind of assume that it has been around forever.
Prior to the 1920's black dresses were reserved for mourning purposes by widows who had lost a spouse. In this time period there were different stages of what types of women's clothing could be worn during a
time of mourning including fashion accessories, design detail and types of materials.
It was in 1926 that fashion designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel had a picture in Vogue magazine of a simple, short black dress. It was straight, calf-length and could be worn by any woman.
Black dresses were no longer reserved for women in mourning and the dress remains popular in todays modern styles of womens fashions.
